Bouldering at
the gunks goes back a long way. Many credit John Gill
with giving bouldering credibility and refreshing a scene
often thought of as "training" for the big cliffs.
Any climber at the Gunks today can't deny
that they at least tried one of the boulder problems gracing
the carriage road. While some climbers still see boulderers
as a nuisance, most see them as part of a thriving scene
that is in some ways more vibrant than the activity on
the cliffs these days.
